Finally!!!

WOW!  I finally started on Chapter 50 tonight!  I am hoping to really delve into this book and finish it very soon.  I've always enjoyed writing and when I finish this book, it will be a major accomplishment in my life.  Working full-time doesn't allow me to write as much as I would like to, but being diligent will definitely pay off.  Writing a book isn't easy, but it sure is fun and I'm sure it will be rewarding!

Making a Difference

In 1935, Darlene Jackson pulled into the gas station in her hometown of Cadet, Missouri.  She couldn’t help but feel out of place.  She had been living in the city since she left home at the age of 18.  She had married her best friend, Billy Jackson and left the little town to live in the big city.  She had lived in the city for 15 years.  She had tried to stay in touch by writing letters to her parents and best friend Sally, but none of them had heard from her in over a year.  She had gone through a lot of heartache during that time and hadn’t known what to do about it.  One day, she got up, packed her car and drove back to her home town. That’s how she found herself sitting right there in her car watching as Sally’s husband Abner, came outside to greet her.  She could tell at first that he hadn’t recognized her and that when he had, a thousand questions came to his mind.  She hoped that soon a lot of his questions could be answered and that everyone could understand why she had been silent for as long as she had.  Abner had suggested that she drop by and visit with Sally on her way to her parents’ house.  Darlene listened to Abner’s suggestion and did just that.  When she saw her old friend again, it brought a lot of emotions to the surface.  They had a nice talk and Darlene found herself spending lots of time with Sally, Abner and his friend Bill in the days to come.
Bill Anderson was Abner’s best friend. They had been friends since their schooldays.  He worked in St. Louis at the Ford plant that manufactured cars.  Bill commuted to work every Monday and stayed in the city until the weekend, when he would travel back home. He had never married and had chosen to dedicate himself to his job.  Lately though, he and Abner had been talking about the future and what Bill really wanted.  He had found himself envying Abner’s home life.  He had been blessed with a wife and 2 respectful, loving children.  He surely wasn’t getting any younger and thought it might be time to settle down, but who could he settle down with?  The Depression had taken its toll on their community.  The plant started downsizing, so Bill started to make arrangements to retire and become a farmer.  Little did he know, his decision would help one of his coworkers in a big way.
Abner and Sally had a boy named Jimmy and a girl named Jane.  Jimmy started helping his dad at the store over the summer and learned a lot of responsibility, which led him to start doing some things to support the community for the holidays.
The people of this community were very closely knit and many relied on God for things to be taken care of in their daily lives.  Some fell on some extremely hard times, yet their faith always remained strong in God.
